Transport yourself into the breathtaking medieval villages and stunningly beautiful hills of Tuscany and Umbria – into a lifestyle filled with simple pleasures and traditions dating back centuries. Join us in late spring or early autumn to share all the history and romance of Tuscany.
The tour is based in Cortona, located at the southern end of Tuscany, where we enjoy the advantage of staying in a stunningly beautiful village that is full of life; both local and tourist, and still have easy access to some of the larger centres of Tuscany and Umbria. Cortona, has enjoyed fame and popularity since the publication of Frances Mayes’ story ‘Under a Tuscan Sun’ (and the movie) which ignited the romantic passions of many women wanting to renovate an Italian villa.
You will visit places such as Siena, taking a walk through the famous Piazza del Campo and visiting the awe inspiring Duomo and the Franciscan Monastery ‘Le Celle’ where the tranquility engulfs you. You will also experience the beauty of the wine growing regions on visits to the towns of Montepulciano, San Gimignano, Pienza and more. Spend a day at sparkling Lake Trasimeno, take in the National Gallery at Perugia and much more.
You will also have plenty of time to explore local markets as well as shop at some of the exquisite boutiques that sell fashion and leather goods and to visit the local artist galleries and workshops. And, of course, there’s the Tuscan food and wine which is to be enjoyed as home-cooked meals and in restaurants – there’s even a cooking class with a local chef.
Each day of this tour has something special to offer; the history, the art, the shopping, the food and wine, the sights, and most importantly the friendships.
